VII) Dr. George Pitkin Cooley , son of Dr. William (3) Cooley , was born November 28, 1828 , at Manchester, Connecticut . He attended the public schools at East Hartford and Hartford Center School, Phelps Academy, at East Hartford , and after leaving school was clerk in a drug store owned by A. A. Cooley , of Hartford . He began to study medicine in the office of Dr. C. A. Taft in 1850 , and attended the New York Medical College the following year. He was a student at the Hahnemann College of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania , 1853-54 , and graduated with the degree of M. D., He began to practice at Bristol, Connecticut . after graduation and continued three years. Since 1857 he has been located at New Britain, Connecticut , where he is still in active practice, one of the oldest and most highly respected of his profession in the state. He is attending physician of the New Britain General Hospital. He was made a master mason in 1853 , and is a member of Franklin Lodge of Bristol . He married. April, 1865 , Lucy Ann Peck , a native of Berlin, Connecticut . Children: George Pitkin 1620 and Norman Peck , both mentioned below.
